Systematic Drainage Approach

Our comprehensive approach to tunnel and underground structure drainage is built on over 25 years of experience and proven methodologies which address water management.

Permanently Preventing Water Pressure

Traditional waterproofing approaches are based on blocking water ingress. Our systematic drainage approach recognizes that water will always find a way, so instead of fighting it, we manage it effectively.

Dolenco Drain capture water ingress at the source, create predictable water flow patterns, prevent harmful pressure buildup behind linings, and coordinate all drainage elements for optimal performance.

Our Methodology

N

Assessment & Design

Every project begins with thorough analysis of geological conditions, expected water ingress patterns, and structural requirements.

N

System Integration

We design drainage solutions that integrate with the complete lining design components, including waterproof lining and structurally.

N

Quality Installation

Our proven installation techniques ensure proper system performance from day one.

N

Long-Term Performance

Systems designed for 120+ year lifespan with significantly reduced maintenance.

State-of-the-art Modular Drainage for Underground Structures

The Dolenco Drain Water Management System represents an evolution of tunnel drainage technology. Our patented modular design creates a comprehensive network of drainage channels that permanently prevents water pressure buildup behind tunnel linings.

How It Works

The system consists of interconnected half-pipe drainage channels arranged in a web pattern between two layers of shotcrete. When water seeps through the outer surface, it is immediately collected by the drainage strings and led to the base of the structure, eliminating pressure buildup.

Technical Performance

  • Flow Capacity: 8m³/m wall/hour
  • Service Life: 120+ years (permanent solution)
  • Installation Rate: 12-20m²/hour with 2 people

Materials – Available in both recyclable and biodegradable materials.

Installation Process

N

Surface Preparation

Surface Preparation starts with applying initial shotcrete layer, leveling surface to eliminate sharp edges, and filling cavities to ensure proper module contact.

N

Mounting

Module Mounting involves mounting from top working downward, connecting modules with flexible overlapping details, securing with 30mm concrete nails using a nail gun, and installing from scaffold or scissor lift.
N

Final Layer Installation

Covering with waterproof concrete, designed to the project specifications, ensures proper, longterm effect and durability for the overall lining.

Key Advantages

Permanent solution

No replacement needed during the lifetime of the structure. Flexible module design adapts to uneven surfaces and varying contours. Quick installation with lightweight modules enables rapid deployment.

Low Maintenance cost

Maintenance access allows systematic scanning and mechanical cleaning. Monolithic integration creates seamless bond between  shotcrete layers. Chemical and fire resistant with proven performance in high pH concrete environment.

Applications

Our systematic approach works across multiple underground applications: road and rail tunnels with complete water management systems, metro systems proven in major urban infrastructure projects, basements and foundations for residential and commercial applications, secant wall structures with specialized drainage for deep excavations, and slope stabilization preventing water-induced slope failures.

1. Rail

Rail tunnels are susceptible to maintenance work over many years and under difficult working conditions. It is important to design a solution, which will be dry, durable and minimise future repair work.

Minimising lining thickness has a great impact on cost of making a rail tunnel and slim linings are critical when repairing rail tunnels.

Repair work requires substantial downtime, which is a problem for the rail transport. For this reason, repair time is also an important factor.

Installing Dolenco Drain reduces lining thickness, work time and maintenance cost.

2. Road

Excavation of road tunnels involve risk of water ingress, since water infress is an uncertain factor. There may not be much water in the initial period and then water appears from unknown area.

Water also moves around, so it is uncertain where it will come in after some time.

The uneven surfaces are easily applied Dolenco Drain.

With systematic water management, both seen and unforeseen water ingress, can be addresses. No matter where or when water will appear, Dolenco Drain will permanently alleviate the water pressure and flow, and prevent water seeping in.

3. Rock

High water flow can prevent shotcrete from having adhesion on the rock surface.

Dolenco Drain is normally applied on the initial shotcrete layer, but can be mounted on the rock surface make adhesion possible.

A pragmatic solution, which enables the start of the lining.

4. Brick

Brick surfaces are the most difficult to waterproof from inside.

Also there are usually only very little space to work with and bricks are not possible to be remove.

A slim, robust solution is difficult to make, when water is seeping. Joints are repaired and Dolenco Drain becomes the main component to lead water, so a slim lining can be designed.

5. Secant pile

Water ingress is difficult to stop by waterproofing from the inside.

Pressure from the water is difficult to manage by injecting and often a separate wall in cast inside, to make it possible to apply waterproofing on the outside.

Or a thick wall slab is cast to hold water pressure, combined with waterproofing on the inside

Including Dolenco Drain into the lining prevents pressure and makes it possible to redesign and at the same time achieve time and cost savings.

6. New

Structural design and water management are some of the most critical factors, when designing new tunnel linings.

Optimisation of design is important to get the technical solution, which reduced material use, construction time and overall cost.

Including Dolenco Drain Water Management System into the design phase, opens up for numerous detail optimisations.

There are different options for managing different inflow and specially designed details, to manage specific problems during construction. This way, you secure a both short term and long term reduction of construction time, cost and maintenance of stations, tunnels etc.

7. Existing

After many years of designing, building and maintaining underground structures, we have learned from our previous designs.

Space, time and cost is still key when repairing existing structures. And how to repair old structures has become focus, as tunnels are getting older. Dolenco Drain is a fast and low cost, safe repair solution.

Even new structures often need repair work during construction.

Seeping water handled with a water management approach, focuses on solving the initial problem of water ingress. Alleviating the water pressure creates a durable, long term solution, with reduced cost, time and further maintenance.
